STATES IN INDIA

The geographical and cultural diversity of India is truly amazing. Not many countries in the world can boast of such diversity. Despite this humungous difference, India has always remained united and that is a truly remarkable achievement. India is a union of states which got freedom on 15th August 1947 and became a republic on 26th January 1950. In strict political language, India is a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic with a parliamentary system of government. Indian constitution was formally adopted by the parliament on 26th November 1949 and came into force on 26 January 1950. India has 28 states and seven union territories.

After the independence, there were not these many states. An act known as The States Reorganization Act came into being in 1956 with the purpose of reorganizing the boundaries of Indian states along the linguistic lines. Till year 2000, there were 25 states but in the new millennium three more states, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Uttaranchal were carved out of bigger states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian states are,

Andhra Pradesh
Arunachal Pradesh

From Jammu to Kanyakumari, the lifestyles and way of living is very much distinctive. Credit goes to thousand years of glorious Indian history that has led to development of multiple cultural entities in different parts of India.

The states of India have certain powers and privileges. The executive head of the state is the Governor who also acts as the representative of the President. Each of the state has their own culture, custom, history, languages and festivals. It is always a memorable experience to travel in any part of India.
