bronze sculpture

Sculpture made from bronze have been extremely popular through the ages as it is probably the only metal that creates its own natural protective cover in a short span of time. So to speak this is an easy-maintenance metal. One can avail of this metal in two primary categories of highly polished or antiqued. In the case of the former sculpture, the metal is polished creating a sheen that will last till it begins to oxidize on its own. On the other hand the sculpture made of antiqued bronze is treated to give an archaic feel to the metal. Basically an oxidized film is added to the sculpture.

The earliest traces of bronze sculpture dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization. On excavating the site, Archaeologists found bronze statues, the most famous of them being the Bronze Dancing Girl. All have been amazed by the fact that the bronze statues and carvings of that period have survived the ravages of time and still seem as good as new.

Bronze can be sculpted into various forms. Sculptors have created doors, figurines, fountains, etc., from this metal. To add to the aesthetics of the sculptures, the workmen engrave intrinsic designs, which could be significant as far as the culture of the place is concerned. For instance, Indian bronze sculptors used to engrave Sanskrit Shlokas on their piece of work.

Those living in the coastal regions of India prefer bronze sculpture to other metals as it does not rust, and therefore needs minimal additional care. In fact it is easy to clean. Amongst the popular sculptures of India are the idols of Gods such as Lord Ganesha. Apart from that there are other ethnic bronze idols and statues that are available in the Indian market.
