Curtains are one of the essential requirements as far as home décor is
concerned. It is required to maintain privacy of the home so that
neighbors or other passerby’s cannot look into the house. Apart from
that it protects the people from the direct ultra violet rays of the
sun. Curtains make the house complete and comfortable. One can either purchase readymade curtains that are stitched with the required lining and are ready to be hung onto the curtain rod; or alternatively one can purchase drapery fabric and design the way they would like their curtain to flow. The curtains could be made according to specifications. In India there is no standard size as far as the windows of the apartments are concerned, because of which most people purchase drapery fabric and then have it tailored accordingly. Most retailers selling this fabric also provide customers with a tailor and carpenter if new rods have to be put up. There is no universal thumb rule as far as purchasing drapery fabrics are concerned. They could be lace with satin lining; it could be a thicker material or something a little flimsy with flowers printed on it. People usually put up curtains according to the furniture. The drawing room window is usually draped with something that looks sophisticated. People tend to put up curtains with prints of cartoon figures or fairy tale characters in the children’s room.
