June 7 th, 1896 marked the event of the first showing of cinematographic pictures in Denmark. The development of the Danish Movies did not increase until 1904. The year 1906 was yet another milestone covered in the history of the Danish Movies. This year marked the event of the first actual Danish movie being presented.

This first Danish Movie was called “The White Slave Trade”. This movie had a running–time of almost 45 minutes. With longer running–times coming into foray in the Danish movie scene and the quality of the movies also improving it became necessary to have positive changes for the Danish Movie Theatres. And of course it was necessary to keep the cost of the ticket prices also low. In order to achieve this objective, existing capacity was expanded, by building larger movie theatres.

The end of silent era of the Danish Movies also resulted in the following structure for the Danish movie industry. There was an exhibition segment, which consisted of about 350 Movie Theatres. Of course half of these movie theatres were so small that they were economically insignificant but they were still regulated by a licence system and were subject to entertainment tax and censorship.

On the other hand there was a distribution segment, which comprised of a total of about 12 companies. Of these 12 companies the most important companies were a bunch of 5 American companies and of course the list of the important companies also consisted of the Danish Fotorama.

The third part of the structure was the production sector, which comprised of 2 companies. Both of these production companies declined greatly until they finally stopped production.
