In the history of Tibetan Movies, Eric Valli made his initial foray as a director in a film, which features all Tibetans as the main starcast.  Eric Valli speaks Nepalese fluently and is a director who has been around for 15 years. Eric was a renowned photographer before he decided to go behind a film camera for his first film. 
 
This movie documents the fast-vanishing lifestyle of the people who are found roaming between Tibet and Dolpo. The movie traces the life of a character called Tillen who is the aging caravan chief. His leadership draws its authority largely from the laws of the mountain, the traditions followed by the high lamas and his forefathers. At the same time Tillen’s leadership draws a large amount of criticism and challenge from his own son and heir Karma. Karma often accuses his elders of being too superstitious. Gurgon Kyap who was a newly-arrived Tibetan refugee rendered his rough edges to the character of Karma. Jampa Phuntsok of Lungta fame and Tsering Dorjee from Dharamsala-based Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts come to comprise the remaining Tibetan cast. 
 
This Tibetan Movie was entirely financed by Jacques Perrin. Due to the factors such as weather and logistics delays were caused and the budget for the movie shot up. But Jaques Perrin stuck by his confidence in Eric and the superb story.

  Making a film in the extreme conditions such as the ones in which this Tibetan Movie was made is a unique and passionate experience. Each new day brings about an incredible technical and physical performance from the crew.
