One of the famous Danish music group Lang Linkin, which formed in 1970 is
now considered as the godfather of the Danish new folk music.

Traditional Danish
music groups such as Haugaard and Hoirup, Phonix and Instinkt have
also existed since long but were not as commercially successful as
the Sorten Muld which had begun in 1995.
Regional Danish music is also gaining popularity thanks to the music of the Sami people of the northern Finnish and Scandinavian region often called Lappland. The music here is spiritual and often reminds you of the Native American music. One can get a glimpse of the dominant Christian Scandinavian culture in the music here. |
One of the universal known pieces of Danish music is the temperamental, romantic Tango Tzigane Jalousie composed by Jacob Gade in1925. Another popular Danish music composition is 'The Champagne Galop' by Hans Christian Lumbye. Rock music is also popular in Denmark and some of the famous Danish bands in the rock genre are Savage Rose, D-A-D and Pretty Maids.
