brass chandeliers

Certain history texts claim that Chandeliers began to appear in Europe as early as the 16th century. Chandelier is a French word, meaning candleholder. In the earlier days when electricity was not discovered, Chandeliers were made to hold candles and light room up after sunset. They were mainly made of brass.

Today, a chandelier has become an artifact put up in many homes and offices across the world. One of the most traditional patterns of Brass Chandeliers is a pierced disc with six circular perforations. There are chains attached to the disc, connecting it to a cross. This smaller cross is fixed to single chain suspended from a larger cross. Such Brass Chandeliers were used to illuminate both churches and private houses.

In India, Chandeliers made of brass adopted the form of lanterns. These lanterns were either used as candle stands or lit up with the use of gas or kerosene. A brass chandelier adds an unique charm and beauty to any room. These Chandeliers usually require small, lower wattage candle-flame-shaped-bulbs; though larger bulbs can also be used. Often three or more light bulbs are placed in one chandelier, depending on the size and structure of the main frame.

In Indian homes the Chandeliers made of brass can be hung in nearly any room of the home; be it the drawing room, children’s bedroom, kitchen, bathroom or master bedroom. It also looks nice hanging outside the main door. These Chandeliers also make impressive light accessories for the office interiors. ~ author Karishma Bajaj
