Furniture in cherry wood is usually available in European designs. They
are generally big, occupying a lot of space. This may not find place in
most Indian apartments, but most bungalows and hotels would definitely
be designed to fit the furniture set. A large number of British, who
lived in India prior to independence, brought their furniture that was
made from cherry wood. This is presently available amongst antique
furniture traders. Cherry wood furniture needs to be cleaned and polished from time to time. This is more so because it tends to loose its original color over a period of time. While furniture made of original cherry wood is not so common and expensive at the same time, a lot of people opt for this polish on their furniture. When a piece of furniture is waxed or polished a fine layer of dust tends to get mixed with the wax or polish and over a period of time the layer darkens and the grain pattern comes to visible surface. Apart from this while being used, the furniture is put through a lot of wear and tear and sometimes the polish tends to chip off. When polish of a different wood type is used the damage over time is more noticeable. For this reason furniture with a cherry wood polish should be well maintained and kept clean constantly. Apart from waxing and polishing, cherry-wood furniture may require minor repairs touchups from time to time. Especially the antique pieces. One of the ideal ways to maintain wooden furniture of any finish is to use sandpaper to keep the surface smooth. You can also use a little oil and wipe it from time to time.
