prenatal development

One of the most beautiful phases during a woman’s lifetime is the nine-month pregnancy tenure. Yes, there are ups and downs that do occur during this period; but all that is done away when one thinks of the little life that is taking its form within the womb. This is what makes womanhood so special – the possibility of motherhood. And to ensure healthy pregnancy tenure one needs to follow every recommended step and procedure that is prescribed to bring about consistent prenatal development.

The mother-to-be is required to go through prenatal testing from time-to-time. This is an essential as the various tests monitor the growth and development of the fetus, thereby ruling out any complications, as well as bringing under control any possible damage or harm that could have been accidentally done to the fetus. Thus, the prenatal tests are essential for the following reasons:

• It helps to identify any kind of health problems a mother-to-be faces, in order to see that the child is not affected.
• It helps to find out about various characteristics of the fetus such as the size, gender, age and most importantly the placement of the uterus during the pregnancy period.
• The tests help check whether the fetus is developing or has developed any congenital, genetic or chromosomal troubles
• The tests monitor any types of fetal abnormalities such as organ development, as well as heart related malfunctioning.

One of the important tests is the prenatal ultrasound. This is a video test of the fetus. The test helps monitor the healthy growth and development of the fetus, especially checking the heart functioning and over all body development that is supposed to happen in accordance to trimester charts.

The pregnancy development stages are divided into three trimesters. The gynecologists and obstetricians have standardized charts and timetables according to which they can monitor whether the fetus is developing healthily or not. There is a an average growth and development that happens during each trimester, if the fetus is developing and growing within the normal averages prescribed then there is no reason for concern. However, in case of any abnormalities, it can be controlled by the development monitoring.

Apart from the battery of tests, the mother-to-be is required to follow a proper diet for a healthy pregnancy. The prescribed diet has to be rich in all essential nutrients, yet according to the prescribed requirement-level. One needs to ensure that one consumes a balanced diet and visit the nutritionist or dietician regularly to have the diet changed as per requirement. One needs to be aware that as the fetus is growing and developing, the needs for its good health also keep changing. So, there is no nine-month standard diet.

Medical science is constantly making large advancing and progressive steps. The latest development in the field of prenatal tests is the 3d ultrasound prenatal diagnosis. In this test the obstetrician gets a detailed three-dimensional clipping of the fetus. This helps in closer to perfect diagnosis during pregnancy. And more so it is the most exciting moment for the parents-to-be to see next-to-life video of the fetus within, as it is. And it helps determining the following, amongst its other benefits:

• The age of pregnancy
• The growth rate of the fetus
• The fetal physical development and functioning - breathing, heartbeat, excretion and movement
• The amniotic fluid
• Formation and growth of the limbs and the spinal column
• The development of the brain
• Whether it a pregnancy in the fallopian tubes instead of the abdomen
• Whether there is multiple
• Finding out the due date
• Determining if there is a possible miscarriage
• Any kind of possible birth defects

It is very important that one monitors baby development during pregnancy. This will help bring under control any possible complications that could have developed or could possibly develop. And these tests should be conducted and administered during the various stages of pregnancy development. And ideally one should maintain a proper chart or time-table to see that the tests are done periodically. And importantly prenatal diagnosis helps in regulating healthy development of the mother-to-be and human life-to-be.
